WEEKLY SAINT PAUL FIRE & EMS BLOTTER

This feature is the "Fire & EMS Blotter" is a weekly update of the activities of the Saint Paul Fire Department.

During the week of May 26 thru June 1, the Saint Paul Fire Department responded to 561 emergency calls. Here is a sampling of some of the emergency and non-emergency activities from information provided by the fire department.

ELECTRICAL FIRE - On May 26 at 5:53 a.m. on the 2000 block of Ramlow Place, fire companies were dispatched for smoke showing from a roof of a house. The fire started in the electrical box in the ceiling rafters. The next door neigbor smelled smoke at around 2 - 3 a.m. The neighbor across the street noticed smoke while getting his newspaper. This fire is accidental in nature from over heated wiring. Damage is estimated at $11,000.

DRYER FIRE - On May 26 at 12:51 p.m. on the 2200 block of Wabash Avenue an industrial fan from a dryer on a production line had a seized bearing, which burned the belt and fan housing. Fire sprinklers controlled the fire until the fire department arrived. Damage is estimated at $3,500.

RECYCLING FIRE -On May 27 at 9:15 p.m. on the 2200 block of Wabash Avenue companies responded to a fire that was on top of a large pile of card board that was being stored outside waiting to be recycled. Workers discovered the fire approximately 8' square in size on top of the pile and used the rooftop water cannon and front end loader to partially extinguish the fire. Crews set up their ladder and assisted with extinguishment. This fire is accidental in cause.

ARSON FIRE – On May 28 at 9:00 p.m. on the 200 block of Burgess Street a boarded-up metal storage shed had its side panel breached. The fire was intentionally started in combustibles on floor. Fire crews secured the structure. Damage is estimated at $300.

HOUSE FIRE - On May 28 at 9:32 p.m. on the 800 block of Fuller Avenue the occupant stated the breaker for the 2nd floor lights tripped and would not reset. The smoke detectors did not sound, but she could smell a light smoke odor and called 9-1-1. Crews found a smoldering fire located above 2nd floor ceiling in the attic space. Crews removed the ceiling and 20" depth of cellulose insulation along the entire length of the attic wiring to negate rekindle potential. The power was turned off at the main breaker. Red Cross was called to assist family with lodging. Damage is estimated at $10,000.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK - On May 28 at 1:40 a.m. on the 400 block of Robert Street an 18 year old man was struck by a motor vehicle and run over. He was treated at the scene and transported to a nearby hospital.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK - On May 28 at 1:56 a.m. on the 400 block of Robert Street, a 21 year old man claimed to have been hit by a motor vehicle. He was treated for his injuries and transported to a nearby hospital.

FALL - On May 28 at 12:21 p.m. a 58 year old female was transported from the 16600 block of Ashland Ave. to a nearby hospital after falling 10' onto a concrete slab. She had been working outside on the 2nd floor porch when she leaned against a rotted wooden railing which broke.
